Geography field trip to Spittal

20th March 2025
As part of our work in geography linked to our learning theme of 'Coasts and Islands' the children have been learning about changes to our seaside areas from both natural causes (such as coastal erosion and deposition) and from human causes (such as the Victorian railways encouraging seaside holidays).  We went to Spittal to look at how it has changed and how it is changing.

The younger children looked at the buildings along the seafront and compared the Victorian houses with more modern houses, including some just being built.  The older children went along the beach to look at the coastal erosion at the cliffs including cave formation.

After that we looked at old photos and postcards of Spittal and tried to work out the location they were taken from and re-create them ourselves!  A very enjoyable and interesting visit.
