Beach school day - Holy Island

On Friday 18th January 2019, we all spent the day on Holy Island as part of our outdoor learning programme.  We were following up work done with the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve (LNNR) team about the migration of light bellied Brent Geese.

We went to Chare End as the tide came in and the conditions were perfect for bird spotting.  The children had binoculars and monoculars to enable them to look in more detail at the wildlife around us.  They then recorded what they had seen in their field notebooks.

After lunch, we walked to Lough Hide to view freshwater birds and to position our wildlife camera.  It was a great day and altogether we walked over 7 miles.  The children didn't complain once and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
